This workshop is organized by Art and Architect Festa, a non-profit organization, with the aim of “having students majoring in architecture and environmental design leave the campus and create actual social works in a given location under the guidance of lecturers, mainly architects who are active in Japan and abroad. We have provided special cooperation from the perspective of nurturing the bearers of “artworks”.
In fiscal 2018, the festival was held in Ise City, Mie Prefecture, a sacred site that has been handed down from ancient times to the present day.
About 60 participating students from Japan and abroad studying architecture, art, and environmental design stayed in the vicinity of the Jingu Shrine at a training camp and created eight small architectural structures based on the ancient historical context.
Sakurai, the president of the firm, served as a critic, and the firm’s employees were on site to assist in the process of creating the works of art.
