Background of the Environmental Declaration
In October 2020, former Prime Minister Kan declared in his policy speech that Japan aims to become “carbon neutral” by 2050.
The “carbon neutrality” that Japan is aiming for is not limited to CO2, but also includes methane, N2O (nitrous oxide), and chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). “Going zero overall” means “reducing the total amount of emissions minus absorption and removal to zero.
